Hello, optical equipment enthusiasts! In this week’s “Innovation Per Week” we’re introducing a high-tech secret hidden within what appears to be an ordinary bundle of straws. It’s the “Product Identification & Counting System”. Don’t you find counting product, especially small one tedious? But what if there was a solution for this? Today, we’ll introduce you to this seemingly dreamlike technology.
Let take a look. Imagine you have to count a bunch of 136 straws like this. Tedious, you think. That where our “Product Identification & Counting System” come in.
The system consists of hardware and software. With hardware, we have a high-performance desktop computer, a 5MP high-resolution camera, a 25mm 3MP fixed lens, and a hardware set comprising 56 LED lighting fixtures. With this setup, even the small openings at both ends of the straws are not overlooked.
As for software, we are pleased to introduce Shodensha’s exclusive, versatile AI-Detector software. AI-Detector is an optical visual inspection software that applies the most advanced AI technology today, which can be applied to many problems such as checking NGs on demand, counting quantities, checking presence or absence, etc…
The way the system works is very simple. The camera system will take photos of the sample, transfer the photos to a PC and analyze the photos using AI Detector. Finally, the software will count and give an OK/NG decision.
AI-Detector software can identify straws with 99% accuracy (more accurate can be improved with additional data) and distinguish holes to accurately count the number of products. This entire process allows testing at a speed of a few milliseconds in many different positions without the need for a fixed position. The limitations of AI-Detector software are very few. AI can sometimes have difficulty identifying products that are blurry or out of focus, but in most cases, AI can check without missing any straws.
